Sunshower

It's only a few hours since I posted, but the view through the window is so beautiful I had to post again. The sky is still charcoal like an old school sweater, but here and there rays of sunshine pierce through the storm clouds and cast this gentle, hazy light on the garden below. It's the most paradoxical scene - light and dark at the same time. The rain has started to softly patter down again through the sun.

I just put a chocolate orange torte in the oven and am enjoying a cup of dandelion tea, curled up on the couch. I love weekends.

As I enjoy this moment there are two thoughts I'm trying to push out of my mind:
1. The clinical notes I need to reread by Tuesday
2. Is it just me, or have ebay fees become exorbitant? I hardly feel it's worth selling on there anymore!

A beautiful day

It's grey outside and there is a slight chill in the air. On and off through out the day the rain has fallen lightly. I think Autumn is finally getting its stride! I love this time of year, I can't wait until the leaves start to turn. Maybe it's bizarre that whilst for most people this weather would be a topic of complaint, I feel strangely comforted by it. It makes me think of beautiful grand lounges (upholstered in brocade with the kind of arms that curl around), snuggly crocheted blankets, hot tea and the soft winter light that streams through the window. It makes me think of winter white, barren landscapes, the mist that obscures the sun and the moon, and cold, dark steel. Or maybe it stems from my love of Wuthering Heights and all things gloom and doom.

Interiors I'm dreaming of

*Crisp white walls. No more antique white.

*Cerise, yellow-green cushions in block colour and a retro circle print.

*White plastic desk chair (no wheels). Or perhaps a colourless ghost chair. Ikea is looking good.

*The perfect fur to drape over aforementioned chair.

*Industrial-looking aluminium pendant light fitting

*Statement desk lamp. Maybe a yellow drum shade, or some kind of natural woven cane.

2011

* declutter: my apartment is TINY as it is. All those extra piles of unworn and unwanted clothing aren't contributing to my sense of zen. In fact the clutter in my room is slowly crushing in on my mind. So cull, list on ebay and try to recoup some lost cash. And don't spend that cash as soon as it's in my paypal!

* destress: I've never made much of an effort in the past to monitor my stress levels. This year I aim to do a little yoga first thing in the morning and again in the evening. A few times a week a hot, relaxing bath. A few minutes in the morning curled on the couch in the soft autumn light with a hot cup of tea. And each night before bed a half hour with a good book and beautiful, fragrant candle.

* decide: no more running in circles considering the same options over and over. Go with your gut feeling. Do what will make you happy (rather than what might look marginally more appealing on your cv). Don't waste time. If you know what you want, get it.

When I grow up...

I want my apartment to look something along the lines of these...
